Star fruit

The caramboleira, small tree of the family of Oxalidáceas, comes from India. The fruit, when mature, both white and yellow, is much appreciated. This fruit, which is a fleshy, oblong berry, endowed with five buds widely separated from one another, provides, when ripe, a bittersweet, very healthy juice. When ripe it is tasty to the natural; when green, however, is sour, and is only eaten prepared with sugar, in the form of jam or jam. Five or six carambolas cut transversely, in stars one centimeter thick (extracted carob), with three cups of sugar and one of water, give a good compote.
