Fig

The fig tree is a fruit tree of the Moráceas family. Originating in the Mediterranean region. The fig, thanks to its high glucose content, the most assimilable of all sugars, fig is a food of the first order. Nourishes and grows fat. The Greek athletes considered it as the most appropriate food for the development of their forces. In some Turkish ports, stevedores, using fig as their main food, are capable of a great detachment of physical energy. Also many Greek peasants use fig as a basic element of their food. Because of its pleasant taste and the variety of preparations it is used for, the fig is widely used as dessert. Its very rich nutritional value, however, recommends its inclusion in our menu, as a regular food.
In order to bring to the organism all the benefits it has to offer, the fig must, like other fruits, be eaten when it is ripe. Unless it has been sulphated, it is advisable to eat it with the whole shell, only scraped superficially or very well washed.
