Ucuuba, for example, is a tree in the Amazon threatened with extinction, as it is much sought after for its light and light wood. Whoever drops it, however, does not see that its true value is in the seeds. Through studies, Natura identified that the annual harvest of a conserved ucuubeira tree generates an income three times higher for the forest communities than the logging. This is because, instead of felling - which only happens once and yields between R $ 10 and R $ 20 per tree -, seed extraction can be done for at least ten years.
Ucuuba is one of the plant assets that we buy from Amazonian communities and that are used to produce one of Natura Ekos' product lines. Ekos products have UEBT (Union for Ethical BioCommerce) certification, created by the UN. This seal assesses and confirms the realization of fair trade, the work to conserve Brazilian biodiversity and the relationship of trust between the company and the community.
